1

Watch a BrainPOP Movie

Check out BrainPOP’s movies on Budgets, Money, and Comparing Prices. For younger kids, head to BrainPOP Jr. for movies on Goods and Services, Dollars and Cents, and Counting Coins.

Tip: Ask Questions!

Try using active viewing strategies when watching BrainPOP movies with your kids to help them build more comprehension. During or after watching the movies, try asking questions like:

  • What are some expenses our family has?

  • Which ones do you think are essential or non-essential?

  • How would you spend $100?

2

Set a Goal

Ask your kids to think of something they want to budget for. It could be anything from a game console or computer to new clothes or their favorite foods. Then, with these prompts, do a little price-comparison shopping:

Use these prompts:

  • Which brands have the best prices?

  • Which brands have the best quality?

  • Is there an option to buy it second-hand?

  • Are there additional costs to consider, like shipping?

Tip: Drive Discussion!

Encourage older kids to dig a little deeper, and ask them: do you agree with the company’s ethics or business model?
